The Canadian Association of Broadcasters is now the latest industry group to join Radio Ready , the coalition advocating for the prominence of terrestrial radio in connected car dashboards. CAB joins 40 Radio Ready members representing approximately 10,000 radio stations worldwide, a Tuesday announcement said. The move follows the addition of the U.S.-based National Association of Broadcasters in July, as Radio World reported , expanding the coalition’s North American representation. Radio Ready hopes to build momentum as automakers consider radio’s presence within vehicle dashboards. The coalition said that terrestrial radio remains an important component of Canada’s national public alerting system. CAB President and CEO Kevin Desjardins said in the release that free, local radio provides essential updates to communities during wildfires, severe weather and other emergencies. “As car dashboards become more complex, protecting straightforward access to radio is essential to preserving that public service,” Desjardins said. Radio Ready is an industry-wide initiative founded by Bauer Media Group and Swedish Radio/EBU. It aims to bring together broadcasters, industry bodies and partners to ensure radio remains accessible in connected cars. [Do you receive the Radio World SmartBrief newsletter each weekday morning?
