On Saturday, an FM station in Red Hook, N.Y., will “reimagine” a Scooby-Doo episode as an on-air radio drama to benefit the Dutchess County SPCA . “We’re giving staff more creative control and developing new ways for local businesses and community organizations to participate in radio,” said Andy Gladding, who is co-owner of WKZE as well as a radio engineer and Radio World contributor. According to a press release, “The morning host is playing Scooby-Doo, the sales manager is Velma and an adoptable shelter dog named Aioli has become the honorary star of the broadcast.” The station will air “A Night of Fright Is No Delight” at 7 p.m. Eastern featuring voices from the air staff, clients and community, with a soundtrack by Cold Flavor Repair. It will be heard on 98.1 FM and at wkze.com. The cast includes morning host Rick Schneider as Scooby-Doo; Denise Parent, singer with local Grateful Dead cover band the Deadbeats and radio show host as Shaggy; afternoon-drive DJ MK Scully as Daphne; and Sales Manager Tari Bohnert as Velma. DJ and musician Jack Grace narrates. Corey Schneeberger will host the presentation during his live “Movin’ and Groovin’” show. The station also brought staff and local musicians together to perform Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me,” featuring the WKZE Mystery Machines and Cold Flavor Repair. “The video promotes the broadcast while giving listeners a look at the talent behind the station,” Gladding said.
