With every column he has penned for Radio World , you get a sense of just how vast a photo library John Schneider maintains. To the delight of us radio aficionados, and for those of you in need of sprucing up your home office, Schneider is back with the 2027 edition of the Radio Historian’s Calendar . It is shipping now, just in time for the holidays. And new for this year is a separate calendar commemorating the history of amateur radio. The cover of The Radio Historian’s 2027 Calendar features a Pilot Super Wasp shortwave receiver from 1930. The 2027 Radio Broadcasting History calendar features 14 high-resolution colorized photographs documenting more than a century of radio development. Each selection originated as an archival black-and-white print that was digitally remastered and colorized to recreate the historical setting. A 1930 Pilot Super Wasp shortwave receiver is featured on the cover. Individual months highlight milestones including Edwin Armstrong demonstrating wideband FM in the mid-1930s, the WOAI(AM) transmitter plant in San Antonio in 1927 and “Cousin” Bruce Morrow on the air at WABC(AM) in New York during the 1960s. A 1927 photo of the WOAI transmitter in San Antonio is the March photo in the calendar. “Each image has been digitally remastered and colorized to replicate the original scene as accurately as possible,” Schneider wrote on his website. New for 2027 is the Ham Radio History calendar, designed to spotlight the golden age of amateur radio. The front cover showcases a 1937 photograph of Richard Nebel (W2DBQ) operating his home station in Brooklyn, N.Y. Featured images inside include a young amateur operator from 1905 for May and Sen. Barry Goldwater (K7UGA) at his Arizona station in 1964 for February. Both wall calendars include two concluding pages providing technical and narrative background for each photograph, while individual date grids mark notable historical anniversaries. Each calendar is available for $24.95 postpaid within the United States. Ordering details, digital previews and sample pages are available on The Radio Historian website .
