Fresh off its 90th anniversary on Nov. 2, CBC/Radio-Canada will receive a $300 million investment over the next two years under the Canadian federal budget. The package allocates $150 million in each of the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 fiscal years. Marie-Philippe Bouchard, the president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, called the funding a “vote of confidence in Canadian creators, including the journalists, actors, producers, podcasters, and radio, TV and film crews, whose work is supported by Canada’s public broadcaster.” CBC/Radio-Canada receives an annual parliamentary appropriation that represents approximately 70% of its funding. In January, CBC News announced plans to establish 11 additional local news operations across the country . That includes three locations in Saskatchewan, two each in the Yukon, Manitoba and Quebec, and one each in British Columbia and Ontario. CBC/Radio-Canada also detailed plans earlier this year to expand its international presence by opening or reopening permanent bureaus in Beijing, Jerusalem, Mexico City, Los Angeles and an additional European capital. The broadcaster also intends to open a bureau in Africa during a later phase of the project. The nonprofit Friends of Canadian Media welcomed the funding decision , stating that the investment provides the public broadcaster with stability as the government works to pass promised statutory funding.
